Okay so welcome to my channel and today we are going to be discussing uh definitely my least favorite piece of uh steam heating apparatus the mcdonnell miller 101a water feeder for those of you that don't recognize it you have my uh envy and for those of you that do recognize it well let's commiserate um together so what this is supposed to do upon receiving the appropriate power in this case this is a 24 volt version really difficult to tell from the outside what voltage this is supposed to take there's supposed to be a plate here which will tell you the voltage um you take an ohm reading of this you get about 1.7 kilo kilo ohms and i don't know what the uh 120 volt version does um i've got this hooked up with a the transformer that's supposed to come with it for the 24 volt version this is a 50 va transformer the huge monster here which looks like it's suitable for arc welding um got it hot wired and if you try to use a smaller transformer to power this thing like a 40 va you run the risk of burning up the transformer so that's a another reason why i don't like this and harden the lawnmower noise there try to talk over it so without further ado let's fire this thing up so when this thing is uh energized the red button pulls down and it hums and makes a really loud noise and uh you can push the hand feed there and that will manually feed it it's really not much to this mechanism this has been in service for at least 60 years probably even 75 years there's the armature pulling down this is where the coil hides...
